SINGAPORE
Singapore, formerly a part of Malaysia, but broke off as an independent sovereign state in 1965. This culturally rich Country is a major tourist destination for many around the world, and with good reason. Although I must warn travelers that the climate in Singapore is extremely equatorial, meaning the temperature ranges from 25-35 degrees Celsius, all day every day; so do dress light.
A fairly traditional and common dish in Singapore seen being sold in this stall at the Albert Hawker Center, Singapore.
Singapore’s fresh, cheap and super refreshing drink stalls are easily my favorite part of it’s culture. Freshly squeezed Sugarcane juice is a must try!
Traditional Singaporean Bah Kut Teh in the Chinatown Hawker.
Singapore is the home to multiple different cultures of food, and have assimilated them into it’s own world recognized flavors. Every time I come to this wonderful place, my first stop is and always will be a Hawker center; often referred to as a food center. The prices are very reasonable, and most hawker stalls specialize in a singular style of dish. Giving you just oh so many options. Singapore is definitely a place, where wherever you decide to go the one thing you will always have is abundant access to fantastic food choices, absolutely everywhere!
Singapore streets is where traditional, cultural, old, and modern architecture mashes together.
The overgrown passages in Singapore Botanic Garden are beautiful
Beautifully lush pathway along in the Singapore Botanic Garden
If you are a fan of natural beauty and gardens, a visit to the Singapore Botanic Garden is an absolute must!
A view from of the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel from the harbour
If you have only a few days in Singapore, the more than likely you will be stopping by the Marina Bay Sands, otherwise known as the MBS. You might have seen the iconic hotel with the roof top infinity pool in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”. The luxury of this hotel is absolutely no joke and definitely not underplayed in the movie. However, it is much busier than the movie makes it seem. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a picture from the top, as the infinity pool is only accessible to hotel guests.
Pathway entrance to Marina Bay Sands Mall
If you are a fan of shopping for designer goods. Look no further than the mall conveniently located at the base of the Marina Bay Sands.
Inside of the high end designer mall connected to the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
A small but beautiful lilypad fountain located just outside the MBS, usually a spot where employees of the mall come for a quick break.
After you have your tour of the MBS, make sure that you head on over the Gardens by the Bay, which is technically connected to the MBS, but don’t let that fool you. The Garden itself is massive! But keep a eye out for the gigantic metal tree structures, and you know you are headed the right way.
A view from the Sky Bridge of Cloud Forest Singapore located inside of the world famous Gardens by the Bay
A view from the ground really puts into perspective how massive this architectural wonder actually is
A shot from the skywalk in the Gardens by the Bay
A very iconic tourist attraction is the sky walk through the central garden. But do not make the same mistake as I did, be sure to stay hydrated, and take note that there are 2 botanical domes located in the ever so vast Gardens by the Bay.
The MBS building from always looks spectacular no matter where you see it from!
Now there is so much to see and do in such a small Country, that Singapore can very easily overwhelm your limited schedule. Be sure to check out some of the local shopping districts, like Bugis Village and Chinatown district.
SIngapore’s public transit can easily be argued as one of the most comprehensive, and best in the world.
Singapore is definitely a place where old meets new, and modern progress clashes with olden culture.
Whether you are traveling on a budget or living the high life, Singapore is definitely a place that can accommodate yours visual needs, your stomach’s desires, and can definitely quell your retail desires. Just be sure to do adequate research based on your budget, and available time!
